Working together to feel better...
My motto: In therapy, I work with families to create the change that they want to see. I believe that my clients are the experts in their own life, and I work collaboratively with families to help them develop skills and reach their goals using therapeutic techniques that have been shown in research to foster well-being and make positive change.
What is therapy like?: I specialize in using research-supported treatments to help children, parents, and families build skills to meet their goals. As a Cognitive Behavior Therapist, when working with a child or adolescent client, an adult, or a parent, I begin with a comprehensive assessment to understand the relationships among my client's thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. I work with my clients to get a sense how they fit together with their environment, and focus on identifying specific strategies and skills that we can use make meaningful change together. This meaningful assessment, combined with cutting-edge treatments, allows for a tailored treatment to help families with a range of issues including anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, negative behaviors, or developmental transitions (such as bedtime challenges, divorce, school changes). My services are compassionate, skill-based, collaborative, positive-focused, and non-judgmental.
My expertise: I have gained specialized training and experience with a number of different populations, with a general career emphasis on promoting positive child and family development. I earned my Doctorate in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in child development from the University at Albany, SUNY. During my graduate career, I developed an expertise in research and therapy focused on fostering positive outcomes and resilience. I completed a Predoctoral Clinical Internship approved by the American Psychological Association at Nationwide Children's Hospital, where I worked with children and parents on treatments for anxiety, depression, ADHD, and other challenges. I further deepened my training and experience by completing a Postdoctoral Fellowship at the University of California, Los Angeles, where I worked with children, families, and parents with stress, trauma, and anxiety. During that time, I also developed a research-based parent-training treatment for parents of children with anxiety. I am trained in and utilize methods from evidenced-based treatments including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), Parent Training (PT and PCIT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Family Therapy and Skill Building.
